This is one of 28 examples of the Hommage Chronograph H40 in white gold with a warm, salmon dial. While Roger Dubuis channels a classic chronograph aesthetic from the 1940s and 50s, the overall package here is entirely contemporary. The salmon dial is adorned with Breguet-style hours and faceted indices while the twin-registers have a sector-style layout. The white gold case is slim and refined, with the ‘tasti tondi’ pushers typical of mid-century chronographs. It is powered by the manually wound calibre RD 56, based on the Lemania 2310. It bears the Geneva seal and was certified a chronometre by the Besançon observatory. It bears paperwork attesting to both these qualities.

As with many things in modern horology, these were first developed as tools, to be used during exhilarating car races, meticulous medical examinations or in more frivolous pursuits. Nowadays, choosing whether to have a chronograph or not is a matter of taste, rather than a question of functionality. It is a choice imbued with romanticism and nostalgia for the past.
