Reinvented independent watchmaking
Françoise-Paul Journe is without doubt one the most influential independent watchmakers of the modern era. His dedication to mastering advances such as resonance and the remontoire finds its basis in his appreciation of the works of Antide Janvier and Abraham Louis Breguet, but equally that of masters such as Dr George Daniels. Journe’s subscription programme showed a different path to independence to watchmakers who came after him, and his philosophy remains rooted as much in aesthetics as it is in advancing the mechanics of chronometry.
