A. Lange and Söhne, in its current iteration, are a surprisingly young brand. Although originally founded in 1845 in the town of Glashütte as a pocket watch manufacturer, they remained dormant for the better part of the 20th century after being shut down during World War II. Revived in the early 90’s after the fall of the Berlin Wall, they have climbed to the top as one of the greatest haute horlogerie manufactures, rivalling any top Swiss brand.
Famed for the architecture and exquisite finishing of their movements, a certain Philippe Dufour stated that A. Lange and Söhne simply makes the best chronographs in the world. It is truly humbling that one of the greatest Swiss watchmaker conceded that a German manufacturer is simply the best.
