Cartier, Place Vêndome
Located near the Tuileries Gardens, the Place Vêndome has been home to many of the world’s finest jewelers for over a hundred years. Cartier is no exception, with their flagship store having opened on the Rue de la Paix (just off the Place Vêndome) in 1899.
Run by Louis Cartier, a third generation Cartier descendant and one of the three sons of Alfred Cartier, the Paris branch was responsible for some of the most enduring designs today, including the Cartier “Mystery” Clock and the Tutti Frutti Jewels.
Created in 1950s, at a time when Parisian high fashion and luxury goods were being widely exported to the rest of the world, this ashtray reminds us of another face of Paris, one marked by artistic and bohemian tastes.
A Classic Design
Built with function and purpose in mind, in each corner, a curved indent is designed to hold a cigarette or slim cigar, making the design both functional yet visually appealing. The centre of the ashtray slopes down into a brushed, circular bowl, in contrast to the sharp lines of the ashtray’s body.
The front of this Cartier ashtray is marked “CARTIER” with “PLACE VENDOME” directly underneath it, while the reverse holds “PARIS; FRANCE”, marking a distinctive time and place that will surely be evoked whenever this collectable is used
If sold within the United Kingdom, this Cartier Ashtray will be subject to 20% VAT.
