This elegant Tank Asymétrique ref. 2488* was first released in 1996, and only 100 examples were made in platinum. Often described as one of the more adventurous models to be initially re-introduced as part of the CPCP range, the Asymétrique is a classic Cartier design, which has captured the imagination of collectors for years.

Cartier Collection

What was the golden era for Cartier?

Creatively, it was really 1919 to 1939. That’s when they created some exceptional pieces of jewellery for some very special clients. Commercially, today is probably their golden age.

What was different back then?

Beyond its dedication to recreating iconic designs, the Collection Privée also displayed a renewed focus on what lay behind the caseback. Having long relied on quartz technology sourced externally, Cartier did not possess the watchmaking know-how or facilities to create high-quality movements. As such, they relied on a range of specialised manufacturers who supplied the French jeweller with manual-winding, time-only calibres, while also helping them develop a range of complications, from jump hours to monopusher chronographs.
