Recently serviced, this Jaeger-LeCoultre Eight Day Desk Clock is a charming example of mid-century design, to be enjoyed on a daily basis on a desk or bedside table. Rendered in warm brass, it is both discrete and elegant, with subtle details found throughout.

During the 20th century, Jaeger-LeCoultre was known for producing its own wristwatches, such as the Reverso and the Memovox, as well as creating an imaginative array of horological objects. With a wide range of different designs - from leather-bound travel clocks to miniature key pendants which tell the time - they were all powered by the manufacture’s own calibers. Their mechanical prowess was such that their movements also found themselves in the watches of Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin, among others.

This particular clock demonstrates that Jaeger-LeCoultre’s talent didn’t confine itself to mechanics. The clock is slanted at an angle, allowing one to easily glance at the time, when it is placed on a table. It features a range of varied finishes throughout the case. The base blends straight onto any surface it is placed on, giving it a noticeable visual presence.

The dial of this Jaeger-LeCoultre Desk Clock is pared back, with straight lines cutting through the center of the dial, painted onto a white background. These lines create a rather distinctive, but balanced effect. A convenient date function is placed at 3 o’clock, with a satisfyingly modern sans-serif font used for the numerals. It features an 8-day power reserve, as indicated by the surrounded “8” signature at six o’clock. The “SWISS MADE” signature at 6 o’clock is a reminder of the provenance of this collectable.
