This rare Rolex Cosmograph Daytona with the "Patrizzi" dial (ref. 16520 - Cal. 4030) features the famous brown discolouration of the sub-chapter rings, named after the Italian collector, Osvaldo Patrizzi. This highly desirable and sought-after piece is from circa 1995, and is guaranteed for authenticity.
When the Rolex Cosmography Daytona 16520 was issued in 1988, it became an immediate hit, replacing a similar design (6263/5) but with a manual-winding movement. This stunning example of the "Patrizzi Daytona" comes from a later series, with a 3rd execution steel bezel and a tachymeter graduation up to 400. The black, Mark IV "Patrizzi" dial features the thirty-minute, twelve-hour and sub-second registers at three, six and nine o'clocks, with a golden discolouration in their chapter rings and the regular "6" numeral in the twelve o'clock sub-register. The five-line design and tritium index markers finish off this stunning and timeless face.
This Cosmograph Daytona comes on a Rolex steel bracelet with polished centre-links, and a double-lock deployant clasp. It is powered by the Cal. 4030, the 31-jewel automatic movement. Rolex based it on Zenith's El Primero 400 movement, but calibrated it from 36,000 to 28,800 A/h, creating an extremely reliable chronometer.
With the line now being out-of-production and the rarity of the Patrizzi dial, this Daytona Cosmograph is a highly coveted piece in mint condition, with excellent mechanical functionality.
