Combining a practical complication with a modern aesthetic, this Patek Philippe reference 5146G-010 is an excellent representative of the neo-vintage movement.
The annual calendar complication was first introduced by Patek Philippe in 1996, for the reference 5035. It differs slightly from the perpetual calendar as it must be manually set once a year. Unlike your typical perpetual calendar, which uses a complex mechanism that can “perpetually” calculate the day, date, and year until 2100, the annual calendar is unable to take into consideration the fact that February only has 28 days or compensate for leap years.
This reference 5146G is a modern take on this neo-vintage complication, which manifests as a decidedly contemporary appearance. The dial makes use of a sans serif font for all the indications and is a satisfying shade of space-grey that further grounds it in the present. Notably, the moonphase is similarly minimalistic in design, only distinguished by a traditional deep blue sky speckled with silvered stars.
The watch is powered by the self-winding Patek Philippe calibre 324 S QA LU 24H, which can be seen through the sapphire caseback. The movement is finished to the typical high standard that the brand is known for, and features the Patek Philippe seal, usually found on pieces produced after 2009.
