More than forty years have passed since the introduction of the original Patek Philippe Nautilus and this now classic timepiece, is more popular than ever. Originally unveiled in the mid-1970s and designed by the legendary Gérald Genta, the Nautilus has become a veritable horological icon thanks to its pioneering role amongst high-end, luxury sports watches.

The Nautilus was released later than the Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet and offered a different take on the idea of a luxury sports watch, though like the Royal Oak (equally designed by Mr Genta), it was made in steel (for the standard version).

In 2004, Patek Philippe released the reference 3711/1G (exclusively in white-gold) - featuring an automatic 315 calibre (SC) and ‘ridged' black dial, with horizontal grooves. The 3711/1G marked the return of the time-only 'Jumbo' Nautilus, previously discontinued in the early 90s. Examples of the reference 3711 were produced for a limited time (between 2004 and 2006), representing an exceptionally rare and highly-collectible modern Patek Philippe.

This white-gold, Nautilus 3711/1G watch is the perfect balance between utilitarian function and elegant design. The case and bracelet are excellently finished, with beveled, polished and granular surfaces. The white-gold bracelet (with 9 removable links) has almost no stretch. At 42mm in diameter, and only 9.4mm thick, the 3711 case is a beautiful twist of perspectives and size. The black, ‘ridged’ dial includes all the traditional indications of a time-only watch, with white-gold, applied hour-markers and Nautilus hands (with luminescent inserts).

The Nautilus 3711/1G is powered by Patek Philippe’s in-house calibre 315 SC (central second and date), visible through the sapphire display-back. The 315 SC calibre features a central 21-carat gold rotor, Geneva Seal certification, 30 jewels, Gyromax balance (beating at 21,600 A/h) and adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism (in 5 positions).

This Patek Philippe 3711/1G Nautilus is accompanied by an Extract from the Archives.
