An Art Deco silver, 8-Day Perpetual Calendar desk clock (No. 2446), manufactured by Breguet in 1926.

Widely attributed as one of the first to develop a functioning perpetual calendar watch, Breguet’s long-standing association with the complication dates back to the late 18th century. It’s one of the more sophisticated and charming high complications, accounting for the long and short months, when calculating day and date (including February 29th, in leap years).

This ‘Pendulette de bureau 8-jours à quantième perpétuel et phases de la lune’ is executed in Art Deco style. The strict, square silver case and stylised numerals perfectly encapsulate the aesthetic influences of the period, housed within its original, bespoke leather case. Overall, its compact design is beautifully proportioned, with bold design flourishes perfectly executed for desk height. Similarly, its legibility and eye-catching presence are perfectly suited to holding pride of place on any table or desk.

The recessed, slivered dial displays the clocks’ unique serial number (2446), with ‘oversized’, applied Arabic Numerals. The ‘lance’ hands are blued, which subtly contrast against the light grey tones of the dial, with recessed sub-registers showing the perpetual calendar (auxiliary seconds, moon phase, day, date, month and leap year indication). The hinged back reveals the hand-setting, calendar-setting and winding functions.

This Breguet desk clock was produced in 1926 (as No. 2446) and sold to Mr. Slavik on September 13th, 1932.

In our view, this Art Deco, 8-Day Perpetual Calendar desk clock represents one of the most attractive examples of its genre, from the period. It also comes accompanied by its original leather box and and Extract from the Breguet Archives.

The calibre is manually-wound, with an 8-day power reserve, consisting of a 2/3 plate movement and gold screw compensation balance.

Viewings can be arranged in Central London by appointment.
