This exceptionally rare and important, hand-made Roger W. Smith watch (number seven) is part of the first batch of nine Series 2s that were completed in 2006 and delivered in November 2007. Designed and made in the Isle of Man, the Series 2 is one of the smallest "production watches" in the world, with fewer than seventy examples created over a ten-year period.

As the only approved pre-owned retailer for Roger W. Smith in the world, we are very proud to offer this stunning example to the market. Furthermore, with a current waitlist for a new Roger W. Smith watch exceeding three years, this makes for a very rare opportunity to acquire one.

This example, in 18-carat yellow gold is in mint condition and has been tested for mechanical functionality. It comes as a full set with its original Linley box and paperwork.

Sized at 38mm in diameter, the yellow gold case of this Series 2 features straight lugs and a fluted crown. It has a sub-seconds at 6 o'clock and a power reserve indicator at 10 o'clock.

The silver, round dial has an outer chapter of hand engraved, black minute and Roman numeral hour markers which are filled with black ink. The brushed silver ring which the numerals occupy is fitted into the recesses of the dial creating a great depth to the watch. The sub-seconds and the power reserve indicator similarly utilises this technique. At the centre of the dial is a hand engine turned basket-work pattern, contrasting well with the different angled patterns found the sub-seconds and power reserve indicator. Finishing it off, the slender, yellow gold hour and minute hands are tipped with spades, an aesthetic feature unique to Roger W. Smith.

Unique to this piece, the original owner requested the chapter for the power reserve indicator to be made in 18 carat gold.

This watch is quintessentially a British watch, which is never more evident than when turning the watch over. The movement features a three-quarter main plate finished in the English style with frosting and gilding. It is numbered, dated and signed individually.

Furthermore, the movement uses the co-axial escapement that was invented by the late George Daniels as a lubricant-free and longer lasting alternative to the more traditional Swiss lever escapement. Interestingly, this particular example went back to Roger W. Smith several years ago for an upgrade as the owner requested the existing original two-piece co-axial escapement to be upgraded to Roger's then newly developed single wheel co-axial escapement.
