This two-tone Hermès "Horse-bit" Bottle Opener perfectly captures late 20th century decadence. In most instances, a bottle opener would be considered a rather simple, utilitarian object. However, when made by arguably one of the finest purveyors of luxury goods in the world, this inevitably elevates it from a functional tool, to something more than this.

The Brand

Hermès needs no introduction. The French luxury goods manufacturer’s history dates back to 1837, when Thierry Hermès first established a harness workshop in the Grands Boulevards quarter of Paris, dedicated to serving European noblemen. Over its history, Hermès has been known as a destination of choice for individuals of refinement and discernment, looking for articles of exclusive design and high quality.

The design

The two-tone bottle opener features Hermès' distinct horse-bit shape, which the Maison has used across many of its objects, from leather goods, to silver wine holders. The design evokes Hermès' equestrian origins, based on a functional element that controls the horse's mouth.

This horse-bit shape is used for the handle, which is executed in a golden colour, with a satisfying degree of weight making the object easier to handle. The opener is made in a contrasting white metal, with an "Hermès Paris" signature discretely placed next to the aperture used to place a bottle cap in.
