Reductionism lies at the heart of this watch. In order to create a mechanically simple annual calendar timepiece, Paul Gerber transformed an automatic ETA-Valjoux calibre 7750. It has a full power reserve of 40 hours, generate through only 30 turns of the crown. The mechanism is exclusively operated through a pusher at two o'clock, to start, stop and re-set the chronograph function, and the crown itself, used to change all the other functions. All parts are made in Switzerland.
The minimalist approach to the mechanism naturally extended to the utilitarian feel and use of the watch. The aesthetic was created by the industrial designer Christian Gafner, who successfully departed from the standard expectations of watch design. The result is a 42mm case in diameter fashioned from titanium, a contemporary material that makes the large timepiece light on the wrist. The day/date, displayed in an aperture at three o’clock, consists of three concentric disks, the innermost showing the day of the week, the middle one the month, and the outer one the date, with a separate AM-PM display. The chronograph hand is almost invisible, albeit with a red marking at the tip - and a 30-minute counter located on the reverse of the watch. The dial is matt black to maximise the readability of the superluminova-coated hands and indices.
The watch comes on its original, black, natural rubber strap and titanium buckle.
Viewings can be arranged in Central London by appointment.
