Hermès
Compendium | 8-Day | Desk Clock

designed by Paul Dupré-Lafon

The Hermès 8-Day Compendium clock, of charming and irresisiteble design, is believed to be the brainchild of Paul Dupré-Lafon (1900-1971). After graduating as an architect and decorator (the legacy of his studies shine through his designs), he became a proponent of craftsmanship. He embarked upon a successful and long-lasting partnership with Hermès in 1929, creating a number of inspired designs, filling the gap between the Art Deco and the modernist movements.

This gilt-brass Hermès Compendium features a revolving, cube-form case with time indication, triple-date manual calendar, barometer, thermometer and compass. Unusually, this example also retains a brass plaque on its original Hermès Paris-signed leather base, which reads "UNION INTERNATIONALE VIS A TÔLE, 1959 - 1963".

On the front, the ivory-coloured dial is signed “Hermès, Paris”, with engraved dates of the month and apertures showing the days of the week/month (on an ivory date cylinder), on the reverse. On the sides, the barometer and thermometer display Feuille-style hands, while the compass rests above.

Viewings can be arranged in Central London by appointment.
