This iconic, vintage Vacheron Constantin, two-toned dial, Chronograph (ref. 4178 - Cal. 434) watch is in fantastic condition. The watch was fully serviced by Vacheron Constantin in October 2015, and has excellent mechanical functionality. This Vacheron Constantin in 18k yellow gold is from 1947, and is a rare find as only 231 pieces were produced.  The watch comes with an extract from the Vacheron Constantin Archives, guaranteeing authenticity and issued on March 4th 2016. As a vintage watch, we cannot warranty its current water resistance.

Amongst collectors, the ref. 4178 is often referred to as the most beautiful chronograph ever made. Its classic charm, with the medium-sized 36 mm case, rectangular pushers, Vacheron's trademark teardrop lugs and the clean dial, makes this watch a timeless, understated piece.

The silver, two-toned dial has a tachymeter scale, a chronograph track, Arabic six and twelve hour markers and elegant, elongated index markers, all printed in black. The two sub-dials, at three and nine o'clock for the thirty-minute and sub-seconds registers, both have engine-turned graining. While the graining is very subtle, it is just enough to change the light's reflection on the dial. With the yellow gold hour and minute batons, the steel blue of the chronograph and sub-registry hands stand out, and create a contrasting, legible, yet elegant look. This Vacheron Constantin Chronograph has teardrop lugs and it comes on a brown alligator strap with a yellow gold tang buckle from Vacheron Constantin.

This Chronograph is powered by the Cal. 434 19-jewel manual-winding movement. Based on the impressive Valjoux 22 cloumn-wheel movement, but has been finished to very high standards, with bevelled angles and various graining and polishes.
