This Universal Genève Tri-Compax has straight-line lugs and the oversized 36 mm Enversteel case has flat chronograph pushers and a snap-on case-back. The left side of the case features three pushers for changing the month, moon-phase and date functions. It comes on a dark brown crocodile strap with a stainless steel tang buckle.
The cream dial has a beautiful vintage patina, applied Arabic numerals, with 'UNIVERSAL GENÈVE', 'TRI-COMPAX' and 'SWISS' referenced on it. Gold Feuille hands mark the hours and the minutes, while the sub-dials and the chronograph movement has blue steel batons, with latter having an elegant pear-shaped counter-balance. This complex watch has a thirty-minute register at three o'clock, a twelve-hour register at six o'clock and the sub-seconds register at nine o'clock. At noon, the dial features an aperture for the moon-phase and another sub-dial with red stick hands to show the date. On the left and right sides of it, apertures reveal the day and the month, respectively. The blue tachymeter graduation at the perimeter completes this truly stunning watch dial.
This vintage Tri-Compax is powered by the 17-jewel in-house Calibre 287, beating at a rate of 18,000 A/h. This complicated movement has a Breguet hairspring and an outstanding column-wheel design. Based on the Calibre 285, its production started in 1944. This iconic base movement was created by Martel, and by using its variable diameter technology, the Calibre 287 came in a 33.2 mm (15 lignes) size, with a mere 6.05 mm thickness. Like the other movements belonging to this prestigious family of movements, it was also shared with Zenith (Calibre 156). With Universal Genève being the first maker of a wristwatch with two chronograph pushers, this stunning piece belongs to a prestigious horological lineage. As a vintage watch, we cannot warranty its current water resistance.
