Patek Philippe World Time Flyback Chronograph, 5935A-001, Stainless Steel

This Patek Philippe reference 5935A stands out for being the first stainless-steel version of a Patek Philippe World Time and at 41mm, it is slightly larger than its platinum counterpart. In keeping with Patek Philippe’s proclivity for bringing together complications rarely seen together, this piece combines a world timer with a flyback chronograph.

In terms of aesthetics, it wears a pleasingly modern dial, with the cities on the world time disc printed in black in a sans-serif font, which is very legible against the light salmon or rose gilt dial. The two-tone, 24-hour chapter ring is divided into black and white portions, representing night and day respectively, with the sun and moon rendered in gold at noon and midnight. The timezone can be adjusted via the square pusher at 10 o’clock. Just out from the 24-hour register is the discretely integrated chronograph scale that works in combination with the 30-minute subsidiary register at 6 o'clock. This dial features a salmon centre, divided in three sectors, with a black 30-minute chapter. The chronograph pushers mirror the shape and size of the one that operates the world time function.

The piece incorporates several elements that pay tribute to references that came before. This can be seen in the stepped, winglet-style lugs, which are derived from the vintage World Time reference 2523. Further to this, the centre of the dial is decorated with a carbon motif guilloché that previously featured on the limited edition Calatrava reference 6007A. This, together with the black and white applied hour markers, give the dial further texture and depth.

Seen through the display caseback is the automatic calibre CH-28-520HU – an in-house movement which in its base form was first used in the reference 5960P. The movement includes a Gyromax balance wheel and silicon Spiromax hairspring and is stamped with the Patek Philippe seal, visible beneath the passing 21-carat gold winding rotor.

The 21mm lugs come fitted with a taupe Patek Philippe calf skin strap secured by a stainless steel deployant buckle. The watch comes with it's box and certificate of origin from the brand.

This Patek Philippe World Time Flyback Chronograph is in very good condition throughout. The case and lugs show light superficial marks and scuffs only on the very surface of the material and are consistent with relative wear. The dial, hands, and movement are free from any signs of imperfection.
