5396G | Annual Calendar | White Gold
Cal. 324 S QA LU 24H
The 38mm case has an elegant, flat-sloping bezel that is so identifiable to the Calatrava series, and wears comfortably on the wrist. The entire watch is polished and mirror finished, while the crown itself engraved with the Patek Philippe Calatrava Cross. The Calatrava takes its name from this ornate cross, first used on the marching banners of the knights who defended the city of Calatrava (Nuova Castiglia) in 1158.
Visible through the snap-on display case back is the self-winding Calibre 324 S QA LU 24H, a modern calibre with complications that have an emphasis on usability. Firstly, it has an annual calendar complication, meaning the watch only needs to be set once a year in February as it takes into account 30 and 31 days in each respective month. Moreover, it is an instantaneous annual calendar, with the date apertures changing exactly at midnight, ensuring accurate reading of the date at all times.
The 5396G-001 features a two-zone sector dial, with apertures at 12 o’clock telling the day and month, and another at 6 o’clock telling the date. A moon-phase is also seen at 6 o’clock, with a 24 hour indicator surrounding it. Although traditional in its inspiration, the dial design produces a modern and elegant aesthetic. The handset is blued, contrasting well against the silvered dial, and complimenting the blue printed, indexes, sector markings and oversized “PATEK PHILIPPE GENEVE”.
As expected from a modern Patek Philippe, the 34-jewel calibre features a Spiromax balance spring (made of silicon-based silinvar), working in conjunction with a Gyromax balance-wheel. The movement is beautifully finished, with finely-applied Geneva stripes, perlage and anglage, as well as exquisite chamfering on all angles.
This Patek Philippe ref. 5396G is in excellent condition and has perfect mechanical functionality. It is a complete set, accompanied by the original box, certificate of origin, literature, leather folder and 18K white-gold stylus. The watch comes on an original brown, alligator strap and corresponding white-gold deployant buckle.
Viewings can be arranged in Central London by appointment.
