This rare, vintage stainless steel Universal Geneve Medico Compax ‘H.P.C’ Ref. 22420 from the 1950s has just been serviced and is in good vintage condition. It is guaranteed both mechanically with a 12 month warranty, and for authenticity.

The Medico Compax chronograph is fundamentally a tool watch - as the name suggests, it was created specifically for medical practitioners. It was based off the ordinary and more common Uni-Compax model, equipped with a pulsometer scale. This feature allows the user to take the pulse of a patient through engaging the chronograph function. Interestingly, there is a very rare inscription on the dial - ‘H.P.C.’, which stands for ‘High Precision Chronometer’. The correlation of this inscription with its medical roots lies in the need for high accuracy when taking a pulse. The certification of H.P.C. is an assurance that the Medico-Compax was suitable for the task.

Sized at 35mm, the stainless steel Medico-Compax case features straight lugs, square chronograph pushers, and a slim bezel that hugs around the domed crystal. The dial, with its pulsometer scale clearly visible, has two sub-dials for the running seconds, and forty-five minute counter. It comes equipped with elegant gold feuilles hands and Arabic numerals for the hour markers. While the dial does have some tarnishing around the edges, it is an honest unrestored example. It has an even yellow patina that has developed gradually over the last 60 years, giving the watch a nice warm hue.

This Universal Genève Medico-Compax is powered by the ever-reliable and high-quality Calibre 285. It is a column-wheel movement, ensuring a smooth operation. And of course, with its H.P.C. designation, it is certainly a testament to the watchmaking quality of the movement.
