Moritz Grossmann Benu Power Reserve | grey dial | white gold
The hack-seconds release is operated through a pusher next to the crown, and restarts the movement after the crown is pulled out, to set the time. When you pull the crown out on most watches, it is almost impossible to push it back, without slightly changing the position of the hands. This pusher is a smart solution to the problem. As the crown draws itself back in, the hack seconds won’t release until the pusher is activated, further increasing punctuality and avoiding exposing the movement to unnecessary dust.
The grey, silver dial features large, white Arabic numerals. The painted minute track, also in white, has graduations of fifths of a second. Again, this makes sense given the focus on accuracy, of the Glasshütte brand. The aperture for the power reserve and sub-seconds dial are at twelve and six o'clock respectively, and thanks to the thickness of the solid silver face, provide additional depth to the dial. Whilst the watch is quite large at 41 mm, it wears very comfortably on the wrist thanks to the thin bezel. The red bar of the power reserve also adds a modern touch to an otherwise eminently classic wristwatch (in the best sense).
Legibility is further improved by the use of Moritz Grossmann's exquisite trademark hands. They have a slim, fluid shape, three-dimensional presence, as well as exceptional finishing. They also sit close to the dial - a tell-tale sign of high-quality watchmaking.
Turning to the movement, the calibre 100.2 is beautifully engraved and finished, directly inspired by 19th century pocket watches. Looking through a loupe at the three-band snailing on the ratchet wheel, the purple hue of the screws and the exquisitely polished anglage, one feels that nothing is left to chance. With each of the 227 components hand-finished to the highest possible standard, this is a strong example of just why German watchmaking is making such headway in the world haute-horlogerie.
