The “Sternzeit Reguliert” is one of the rarest variations of the Heuer Bundeswehr - produced for the German military from the 1960s to the early 1970s. The designation at 6 o’clock translates to sidereal time (in German); a time-scale based on the Earth's rate of rotation, measured relative to the fixed stars. Produced in exceptionally limited numbers, these examples were regulated for use by German Artillery forces, and used alongside theodolite positions to accurately orientate artillery and mortar equipment.

This Heuer Bundeswehr, with case number 37XX, has a matte-finished, stainless-steel case with large chronograph pushers and an original unsigned, fluted crown. The case measures 43 mm in diameter and is sharp and thick, retaining its definition (showing light marks consistent with use). The inner-case is engraved with the hallmark ‘BUNDESWEHR’, along with its NATO Stock number, unique to the “Sternzeit Reguliert” (6645-12-148-2298). The first four digits denote the NATO supply classification group, with ‘6645’ referring to ‘time measuring instruments’. The ’12’ is unique to Germany, while the remaining characters are non-specific identification numbers.

The case features a black rotating bezel with a sixty-minute graduation, lightly-faded to a dark grey. The dial features a white Heuer logo, while 'Sternzeit Reguliert’ is referenced on the dial at six o'clock. A 'SWISS' marking is visible at six o'clock, below the white-printed minute track, with a small ’T’ above the six hour marker (denoting the use of Tritium luminescent material on the dial). The original luminous markings for the hours are fully-intact, showing a warm yellow tone.

The chronograph hand is white, with a small counter-balance, contrasting against the black dial for precise reading of elapsed time. The sub-registers at three and nine o'clock are the thirty-minute and sub-second dials, respectively, featuring Arabic numerals and high-contrast, white hands. Similarly, the hour and minute hands are white in colour (matching the chronograph hand) and are filled with Tritium.

The watch carries a manual-winding, 17 jewel, Valjoux Calibre 230 (unsigned) at its heart, beating at 18,000 A/h, with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.

This ref. 1551 SGSZ “Sternzeit Reguliert” is rarer than other variations of the Heuer “Bund”, owing to its limited production and dedicated military purpose. With its unique background, as well as history of professional use, this Heuer Bundeswehr fittingly represents one of the most desirable military references Heuer’s history.
