Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the manufacture in 1848, in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega Watch Co, named after one its own movements. The brand has since become synonymous with exceptional chronographs.
Early examples take many forms, both in case shape and dial configuration, with this oversized Omega chronograph featuring a two-tone silvered dial, with gilt Arabic and dot numerals. Sized at 37.5mm and 13mm thick, it has a distinctive presence on the wrist, complemented by the elongated, faceted lugs.
The watch is a two-register chronograph, with two sub-dials featuring the thirty-minute counter at three o’clock and a running seconds at nine o’clock. The engine-turned sub-dials have black stick hands, matching the chronograph. The unrestored, two-tone dial also features a blue telemeter scale on the outer-section of the dial, while the inner track denotes the chronograph seconds. Further to this, the dial also displays Feuille hands, matching the silver tones on the Arabic numerals. The three-piece case is in excellent condition - retaining well-defined edges on the lugs and bezel - with a snap-back case, olive shaped pushers and original winding crown.
The watch carries the manual-winding, 33.3 calibre (signed as “Omega Watch Co”) at its heart, beating at 18,000 A/h, with a power reserve of approximately 36 hours. The Cal. 33.3 is not only one of Omega’s most revered chronograph movements, but also one of the best known from the early 20th century (and the predecessor to Omega’s Calibre 321 and the Lemania CH27). This is example represents one of the last to be made, with production having been stopped in 1952.
The watch is accompanied by an Extract from the Archives.
