This vintage stainless steel Omega Seamaster 300 Ref. 165.024 from the 1960s has been recently serviced, and has excellent mechanical functionality. It is in overall good condition and is guaranteed for authenticity.
The bold case is typical of Omega of the 60’s, with their characteristically twisted bombe-shaped lugs and a thick 42mm case made by Huguenin Frères (as denoted by the stamp on the case-back). Made throughout the 60s, the visual styling of this watch is a symbol of the ‘dive watch’ aesthetic of the era.
While the Seamaster 300 was made for divers, its robust design and accurate movement made it a very popular watch, as it was famously adopted by the British Royal Navy to issue to their frogmen. This is certainly a testament to the quality of the watch.
The dial, which was originally black has faded to a deep grey-blue, with the luminous material on the hour markers ageing to a creamy yellow, matching the patina on the sword hands. The original bakelite bezel of this Seamaster 300 is in excellent condition, with minor damage at nine o’clock. Furthermore, the tritium in the bezel has similarly aged to a nice yellow patina, matching the dial excellently. The thickness of the tritium on the markers, bezel and hands were all done for practical purposes, as legibility during deep dives was very important.
This Omega Seamaster 300 is powered by the self-winding Cal. 552, a movement respected for its reliability and accuracy. The movement serial is 282XXXXXX. This watch comes on a beige NATO strap that compliments the yellow tones of the patina on the bezel and the dial.
