Divers Sub-sea | A3630 | Steel
This steel Zenith Divers' Sub (ref. A3630) is a classic vintage sports watch; purposeful and smart. With its Zenith-stamped, original Gay Fréres ladder bracelet and clasp, it very much looks the part.
While this piece is undeniably attractive, it is the condition that stands out. Vintage sports watches typically have tell-tale signs of being over-worn. However this A3630 has been remarkably well preserved. The watch has strong bevels on the lugs, with a deep Zenith star on the screw-down, case-back, further accentuated by the of graining at the center. The bezel retains its tritium luminous plot and has a thick font, typical for the period.
Zenith is famed for producing great tool watches. The A3630, like the Zenith El Primero is a typical example of how proportion can influence aesthetic in the best possibly way. The Zenith A3630 also commonly adopted large broad arrow hands, seldom found with the smaller configuration featured. Sized at 39 mm, the watch is discreet enough for a sports model to be worn as a dress watch.
The dial displays great legibility, owing to its contrasting black dial and white outer minute track. The subtle addition of a date window only adds to this. It retains strong colours and an unblemished surface. This Zenith A3630 is powered by the 17 jewel automatic 2572PC calibre, one of the last in-house Zenith movements before the introduction of ETA’s.
Viewings can be arranged in Central London by appointment.
